Enterprise City

Earlier this week, I took some brief time out from my current development project in order to visit the event 'Enterprise City', held in the iconic Old Granada Studios. Due to being relatively new to the general area of Manchester I had no preconceptions as to what the whole scenario would be like, but I must admit, I was very pleasantly surprised.

The large and airy studio space was sectioned into stages, workshop areas and discussions; an interesting mix appealing to the colourful buzz of the wide range of creative professionals.

'Power Of Publishing' Discussion
I was initially drawn to the heated discussion titled 'Power of Publishing' due to the interesting and relevant topics being gradually unveiled. The range of participants included James Brown (founder of 'Loaded' and former editor of 'GQ'), Simon Binns (Manchester Evening News), an editor from the 'Creative Review' and 'Wallpaper'.

Key topics that grabbed my attention were the concept of advertising positioning within media that has to please both the reader and the advertiser/sponsor, and secondly how the digitalisation of media effects different media types, considering the profit from 'real' papers and now within the current times how the majority of customers need to be catered for online.

Candle making workshop with SUNDAY
One of the highlights of this event for me personally was making a beautiful candle with the lovely sisters from the upcoming 'SUNDAY of London'. They specialise in making botanical candles with natural and paraben free ingredients which was a joy to take part in. We were expertly instructed in how to mix the perfect scents concentrating on 'notes' within essential oils, and each created beautiful and personal results.

Couldn't resist using the amazing balloon installation as a photo opportunity
The complimentary food, the drinks and the subtle encouragement of networking in a casual environment made the event an absolute success, and after an inspiring presentation by the founder Michael Ingall, I left with the contacts of many exciting individuals and the knowledge of up and coming businesses and technologies.
