Miao- Creating a 'Muse'

We initially found as a group the overall concept of creating a muse difficult to comprehend, as creating a product for a specified audience is something we, as textiles students, rarely have to consider before the development process. Usually, for us, the contextual thinking comes after the compositions and designs have been produced and refined, and we therefore create visualizations in response to this as a way of handing in a polished portfolio of work.

Our clothing is designed for an individual of previous indigenous heritage. She has moved from a small subculture into an urban environment, and is adapting to the process of her traditional style being contrasted and challenged by modern and contemporary fashion which responds to the urban surroundings she newly inhabits. The materials and colours are reflections of aspects such as neon lights and the contrast of concrete, metal and other aspects found in metropolitan developments. We believe she would be an individual who is confident in what they wear, and proud of the heritage they are part of, and therefore reflect this attitude with bold, structural garments that reflects 'street style' in the form of layering.

By using my own fashion drawing 'body' and combining this with Natalia's development of a head, we were able to create this interesting identity to cohesively link to the collection we were envisaging.
